We offer an array of services to help clients prepare for community employment.
Our Employment Services team provides Vocational Training, Job Placement Services and Employment Consultation with the goal of helping individuals prepare for, find and maintain jobs in the community based on their career interests and skills.
Most of the individuals who participate in the Vocational Training program work in Helping Hand's own business, Subcon Packing & Assembly, where they gain valuable work skills, as well as a pay check.
To supplement on-the-job training, we offer a selection of weekly Job Club peer groups where clients can learn about career choices and job seeking skills as they advance toward community employment.
When clients are ready for community employment, we have a number of services to assist in finding a suitable job. We work with clients to develop resumes and to polish interviewing skills. We assess work skills and career interests and match individuals with an appropriate employer. The Employment Services Team accompanies clients to interviews, provides coaching for the first few weeks of employment, and continues to consult with clients on an ongoing basis to ensure that our clients are achieving their highest level of performance and independence at work.
We are founding members of a statewide employment network, called EmployAlliance, which offers specialized job placement assistance that matches qualified individuals with targeted employers who are interested in hiring people with disabilities. Some of these employer partners include Jewel, Starbucks Coffee, Prospect Airport Services, Panda Express, Hyatt Oakbrook, UPS, Swissport, Banana Republic, Mellon Financial, Mid-America Bank, Noodles, Potbelly's, Brighton Gardens and many more!
If you are an employer interested in learning more about hiring an individual with a disability, please contact our Employment Services department.
Transportation services may be available. Many clients also take the bus through PACE, which operates a stop just steps away from our building.
Clients who participate in Employment Services may also be interested in our other Adult Services, such as Day Services, Housing Options or our Afternoon & Weekend Programs.
